Paddle Description
Wapanocca Lake formed 5,000 years ago when the Mississippi River changed course. The lake is surrounded by old-growth
baldcypress forest which remains flooded year-round. There is no cost for access to the refuge. 

This will be a relaxed 2 hour paddle for all experience levels.  The paddle does not require a shuttle.

From Memphis take I-55 North to Exit 21 (North of West Memphis) go East on HWY 42 through stop sign go under RR bridge 1/8 mile to Wapanocca entrance on right.

The Canoe Launch is over the bridge behind Admin Building And Visitor Contact Station.


In the past, we have not had access to the restrooms in the Visitor Contact Station on weekends. 


Outfitters
We are not aware of any outfitters serving this location. However, if you contact the Trip Coordinator above, we will try to make arrangements for paddle partners or loaned boats.


Before the Paddle
Several of us will meet at McDonald's in Marion, AR at 9:30 am to have coffee, complete ACA paperwork and use the restrooms.  There is plenty of parking for cars and trailers in the shopping strip next door on the north side of McDonald's.  We will begin a caravan to the put-in at 10:00 am. 


After the Paddle
A group of us will stop at Tacker's Shake Shack in Marion, AR for Lunch on the way back to Memphis.  


Other Details

This is an official BCCC trip. We will comply with safety and ACA requirements. Every paddler must a wear a PDF on the water, be a member or guest of BCCC and sign an ACA waiver.


Anyone paddling who is not a current annual ACA member must purchase a one-time ACA Event membership at $5/person.

This paddle is for Bluff City Canoe Club members and their guests.  If you are not a member, we'd love to have you join.  Membership is only $30 per year and includes your entire family.
