About this event
An introduction to the fun and safe sport of kayaking.
Four hours of instruction on basic paddling and boat control skills, safety, self rescue and the rescue of others as well as an opportunity to see and compare various type of kayaks.
The Instructor
ANDe Demetriou is a Bluff City Canoe Club Member and Chairman of our Training and Safety Committee. ANDe is currently the only American Canoe Association certified instructor active in the Memphis area.
In addition to being an experienced kayaker and certified instructor, ANDe has credentials in wilderness first aid, water rescue and safety.

ANDe is a river guide with the Wolf River Conservancy, a BSA Scoutmaster and VP of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association. He is a member of the American Canoe Association committee that develops River Kayak courses.
ANDe is also the owner of Blues City Kayaks, a paddling tour and training company.

Cost
- Bluff City Canoe Club (BCCC) members - $20
- Non-members - $50 including a first year membership in the BCCC
Kayaks, paddle and personal flotation device (PFD)
If you a have a boat, paddle and personal flotation device (PFD) you should bring those to the class. It’s best to learn with the equipment you will be using after the class.
Boats for the class including a paddle and PFD are available if you cannot bring your own.
