Saturday, Sept. 10

After a hearty breakfast at the Twin Bridges Bar and Grill, 16 intrepid paddlers and one adventure dog embarked on a 10 mile, err, oh wait, 15+ mile paddle down the North Fork of the White. We launched our boats at the Twin Bridges Resort and took out at Blair Bridge. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, cool and sunny. I am happy to report there were no forced swims…at least I didn’t see any.

We did have one new paddler with a small sit-on-top boat that kept filling up with water from the standing waves and when he went of the falls near the takeout. But that was no biggie. We just stopped occasionally and emptied the boat.

After the paddle, most of us gathered at the bar and grill and had a few beers, told a bunch of lies, I mean stories, and attempted to solve the dang ring and horseshoe puzzle. (You had to be there.) This section of the North Fork is an excellent Class 1-2 river. There is one little fall that is about a 2-foot drop. We all made it over with no problems. We even watched two guys in large canoes come over it while standing in their canoes.

Sunday, Sept 11

We woke to cloudy skies and the threat of rain. But that did not deter this group of paddlers. After another hearty breakfast, we drove to the Sycamore access on Bryant Creek. We dropped off all boats and shuttled vehicles to the Warren Bridge low-water access. By the time we put on the water, the skies had begun to clear, and it turned out to be another gorgeous day. Bryant creek is a nice little class 1 creek. The stretch we paddled is about 7.5 miles.

All in all, a fantastic fellowship, great humor, Sasquatch sighting by Larry and Charles and wonderful time had by all.
