Poplar Tree Lake - 7/18/2020

Submitted by September Young

Eight members had a great paddle in late afternoon on Poplar Tree Lake at Meeman Shelby Forest.  Since we were the only ones on the lake, social distancing was not a concern.

We welcomed 3 new members, Chris, Ryan and Brian.  Chris does amazing hoot owl calls and the owls were answering him back.

Everyone was excited to hear about all the upcoming trips.  Mark got to share with Brian, his experience in the Boundary Waters.  Brian hopes to participate in a Boundary Waters trip in the future.  Mark and Pete are looking forward to the Current River trip next weekend.  And others plan to join me on Eagle Lake close to home.

We paddled from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm. No one was in a rush to leave after 3.5 hours and there was a lot of sitting around in the coves taking pictures.

Saturday was hot, but it was good to get on the water.  We found plenty of shade in the coves and with a cool breeze was about 10 degrees cooler.

My phone died of the heat after a few pictures, but Chris took many more. You can find the album here.

For those of you who have not paddled Poplar Tree Lake before, you can go directly to the lake and pay the $3 launch fee at the kiosk there.  You do not need to go to the Visitor Center first..
