Sunk Lake - 8/8/2020

Submitted by September Young with additional input from Mary Finley

Ten of us put on at 10:15 and paddled out to the lake and crossed over to the east side.   Some of the group met up at McDonalds in Marion but others went directly to the put-in.  By the time we arrived, the fog had burned off.

They are working on marking a trail for paddlers but it’s not complete.  Having paddled a few weeks earlier, Mary brought orange tape to mark a tree just as we were going onto the lake.  There is a marker but it’s a little way in from the lake so she decided to bring the tape.  Thanks to Ross for “taping the limbs of the tree.”

From our previous paddle, we knew that paddling north along the east side of the lake would or should allow us to paddle in among the cypress trees.  We weren't sure because of a possible change in the water level.  But we were able to paddle along the lake in amongst the trees.

Eventually, based on the time, it was decided to cross the lake and paddle back to the takeoff chute.  Along the way, we stopped to eat and gather among the trees to visit.

All in all, it was a nice day on the water.  The weather was really nice and we were blessed with blues skies and puffy white clouds.
