Paddle Description
The  St Francis Sunken Lands is a  large open cypress stand.  We will be paddling flat water for 2 - 2.5 hours.  There is no perceptible current, but just enough to keep the cypress stand free of underbrush.

The origin and characteristics of the area are similar to Reelfoot lake.  However, it’s closer to Memphis and the cypress stands are more open to paddling than Reelfoot or Wapanocca. The Trumann Chamber of Commerce is eager to establish the area a part of a canoe trail. Some background information about the sunken lands is here.

There is a good launch ramp and plenty of parking but no restroom facilities. No shuttle is required.

Like other areas accessible to the Mississippi River, there are Asian Carp present.  They are harmless, but a jumping fish, especially one that lands in your boat can be unsettling.

Also,  access to beaches and other land areas is extremely limited.  The venue may be unsuitable for paddlers younger than ten years old or others uncomfortable in a boat for 2 - 2.5 hours.

Powered fishing boats may be present in the open areas, but have not been a problem to paddlers during past visits.

You should be able to load, unload, transport, get into and get out of your own boat without assistance unless you have arranged a paddle partner.

Caravan to Put-In
On Google Maps, the put-in is spelled as Oak Donnick (2 Ns) Access on Oak Donick (1 N) Ln.  I've suggested an edit to Google so it may be fixed by the time you read this.

If you wish to caravan to the put-in, meet Mike in the shopping strip parking lot on the north side of McDonald's in Marion, AR.  There is plenty of parking for cars and trailers. You may wish to visit McDonald's before we leave.  There are no restrooms at the launch area.

We will begin the caravan from McDonald's at 9:00 am arriving at the lake before the 10:00 am meetup.

Minimum/Maximum Levels for safe paddling

Paddling experiences at stages between 10.26 ft and 16 ft on the Oak Donnick Gauge  have been fine.  Minimum and maximum levels are not known at this time.  Below 10.26 ft you might be bumping into a significant number of cypress knees.
